General Rules

1. The trophies for all non-debating contests conducted by The Wellington Speaking Union are, and shall remain, the property of The Wellington Speaking Union Incorporated.

2. Conduct

a. Adjudicators for all non-debating contests shall be selected at the discretion of the Management Committee

b. The final of each contest shall be judged by a panel of three adjudicators.

c. The adjudicators shall retire to consider their decision privately, which shall be determined by a majority vote.

d. All adjudicators shall be invited to speak on the contest.

e. The chairman shall announce the winner of the contest and the second and third placings.

3. The final of each contest shall be chaired by the President of the Union or his nominee.

4. Entries for each contest shall be received by the Secretary of the Union no later than five days prior to the date set for the preliminaries of that contest. Provided, that the Management Committee shall have the discretion to vary this provision in relation to a specific contest.

5. In the event of more than ten entries being received for any contest excepting the Management Cup Contest, a preliminary contest shall be conducted in order to select eight finalists for that event. Provided, that the Management Committee shall have the discretion to vary this provision in relation to a specific contest.

6. There shall be a fee for entry in each contest, to be determined by the Management Committee from time to time.
